FAQ

How do I apply?

We are looking for passionate, interested women from Kansas who are currently attending a college or university located in Kansas. Learn more about applying.

What will I do?

  • Develop a community of practice that empowers women from Kansas and around the globe
  • Study the Adaptive Leadership model to address an issue they would like to make progress on in their community
  • Participate in a 9-month “follow on” program to help continue the work started at the Institute

How long is the program?

The program is about five weeks long. This year the program is from mid-June to the last week of July.

How is the program funded?

There are two funding sources. The women who participate from countries outside the US are funded by a grant from the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Our Kansas participants are funded through generous donations to the KU Endowment Association. The program covers all costs for participants, so that financial need does not limit anyone from participation.

Who participates?

The KWLI hosts up to 6 Kansas women, along with approximately 20 international women. During the KWLI, Kansas participants are current students at a Kansas college or university, and typically have at least one year of coursework remaining in their chosen degree field.

What is the selection process like?

Kansas women will apply in late fall. During mid-December, the first round of finalists will be announced and interviewed. Participants will be selected and notified by mid-January, and need to return a letter of commitment by February 1st.

International women are selected by the US Embassy or Consular Office in their home location. Interested international students can find more information here.

How can I support the program?

The KWLI depends upon generous donations from its supporters to thrive. If you are interested in making a donation, please click here. All donations are tax deductible via the KU Endowment Association.
